The four sections under this heading, Course Design and Planning for Teaching, Creating Effective Classroom Learning Experiences, Assessing Student Learning and Providing Effective Feedback, and Professional Development, have been chosen because they cover the various aspects of teaching and because they allow for growth. At this stage in my career, much of the content on these pages is still being developed as I solidify my teaching philosophy. My philosophy is strongly influenced by my background in Geology and Biology, where teaching is necessarily interactive and experience-based. For that reason, when I teach I create a hands-on environment, which lends itself well to integrating my own specimen-based research into learning experiences for students.
